Permanently fitted boxed escape ladder

Two of the disadvantages of portable fire escape ladders are that i) they can be mislaid and ii) careful handling is required to ensure that they are correctly fitted in an emergency. The best way to address these concerns is to fit the ladder permanently in a container on the inside. The Amigo ladders consist of a steel box fitted to the inside wall.The ladder itself is stored and anchored in the box. In an emergency, the lid is pulled and the ladder is deployed out of the window. The method of ladder deployment is explained on an information sheet affixed to the outside of the box.
This ladder is mainly used in a business environment.

Concealed wall fitted escape ladder (concealed escape ladder)

To make a permanently fitted escape ladder less visible and obtrusive, it is possible to conceal the storage container in the actual wall itself. This is an option mainly suitable for new built homes, although retrofit is possible. The concealed ladder is fitted to the inner wall of a cavity walled building.
To deploy this ladder, the window sill is slid out and the ladder lifted out of its container; it is then simply dropped outside, where it unfolds without further action. Both the sill and the ladder come with photoluminiscent (glow-in-the-dark) signs explaining the method of deployment and escape.
This ladder is mainly used in domestic buildings.

Fold-out escape ladders fitted to the outside

One of the safest fire escape ladders and the ladder most suitable for installation in business premises is the Saffold fold-out fire escape ladder. The ladder, when not deployed, is drainpipe sized and bolted on the outside wall. In an emergency, a pin is drawn at the top and the ladder opened up. The ladder is exceptionally strong and virtually impossible to overload. It is guaranteed for 15 years and is easy to fit. If required, harnesses can be supplied that slide down with the user but stop any fall. The ladders are available in any colour and are the escape ladder of choice for any historic building.
